Weak vs Strong
oils on canvas
Bailey Gardner is an American artist born in 1997 in Topeka, Kansas. Gardner went to the University of Kansas for undergrads where she found her love for oil painting. She went on to study at New York Studio School where she received her MFA. Bailey lived in New York for several years where she worked and taught master classes alongside Dean Graham Nickson at NYSS. After graduating in 2021 Gardner moved to London, UK to study at The Slade School where she received a post-graduate degree. She also worked and taught in London for a few years before moving back home. Gardner has recently moved to her hometown where she currently resides, continuing her practice and showing her work in galleries around world.
Bailey is a contemporary American artist and uses oil paints as her preferred medium. She enjoys using the grid method and the Golden Ratio to idealize figures and to elevate her composition. She explores the concept of ‘Weak vs Strong’, a narrative where the “weak” conquers a powerful being. Gardner creates an ambiguous scene that becomes relatable to the viewer and leaves them with a sense of hope and an emotional connection to the narrative as if it’s our own battle.
