Stephen Smith Images
With more than four decades of entrepreneurial experience, Stephen has always had a special appreciation of art and the value it brings to people’s lives. As a photographer, photography studio owner, and gallery owner, Stephen understands that art is an investment as well. Stephen has received the Master and Craftsman Degrees from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), the KS Distinguished Fellowship Degree from the Kansas Professional Photographers Association (KPPA), The National Award from the KPPA and the Life Award from PPA and KPPA. He remains actively involved in mentoring upcoming photographers and continues to provide photographic services to the local community during non-gallery hours. Along with many degrees and notable awards in the field of photography, Stephen’s community involvement has consistently supported various non-profits throughout the years – Capper Foundation, CASA, Kansas Children’s Service League, Downtown Topeka Inc., Past President HOA (regional) & KPPA (state) Professional Photography Associations, to mention a few. He currently serves on the Board of the downtown BID (Business Improvement District) as well as serves on the downtown Grant Committee approving requests from businesses seeking funds for permanent improvements to downtown buildings funded by the City of Topeka. Stephen and his wife, Edie, renovated their circa 1888 building at 931 South Kansas in the mid 90’s. In 2010, the Smiths added loft living quarters above Stephen Smith Gallery, and love residing in the downtown area. The vibrancy of the downtown is a wonderful draw for art enthusiasts, and the Gallery is excited to showcase incredibly talented artists from across the country along with fantastic local artists.
